Hash Generator (SHA-256, SHA-1, SHA-512)
Compute SHA checksums of text in your browser.
Input
This tool runs entirely in your browser. The data you paste or load is never uploaded.
Result
Enter your input, then run the tool.
About this tool
Computes SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests of any text with the browser’s built-in Web Crypto API, in hexadecimal or Base64. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for configuration values and test fixtures.
How to use it
- Paste or type the text to hash.
- Choose the output encoding.
- Press Generate hashes and copy the digest you need.
Frequently asked questions
Is SHA-256 suitable for storing passwords?
No. Plain SHA digests are fast to brute-force. Store passwords with a slow, salted algorithm such as bcrypt or Argon2.
Why is MD5 not offered?
MD5 is broken for security use and the Web Crypto API does not provide it. Use SHA-256 for checksums instead.
