About this tool

Converts plain text into Base64 using the browser’s UTF-8 aware encoder, so accents and emoji survive the round trip. The URL-safe option swaps plus and slash for characters that are safe inside query strings and filenames.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste the text to encode.
  2. Enable URL-safe output if the value will sit in a URL or JWT.
  3. Encode, then copy the Base64 string.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?
No. It is a reversible encoding with no key. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to protect a password or a secret.
Why do some Base64 strings end with =?
Padding makes the encoded length a multiple of four. URL-safe encoders often drop it; both forms decode to the same bytes.
