About this tool

Analyses an image and extracts a palette of dominant colours with their share of the picture. Quantisation runs on a downsampled copy, so even large photos produce a palette in a moment.

How to use it

  1. Load an image.
  2. Choose how many colours you need.
  3. Copy individual HEX values or the whole CSS variable block.

Frequently asked questions

How are colours chosen?
Pixels are collected into a coarse colour grid, then the most populated buckets are averaged and returned sorted by coverage.
Why not simply the most frequent pixel?
Photos contain noise and gradients; bucketing produces a palette that looks like the image instead of near-duplicate shades.
