About this tool

Decodes standard or URL-safe Base64 and shows the UTF-8 text, with a warning when the bytes are not valid text (an image or a binary file, for example). Malformed input is reported instead of producing garbage.

How to use it

  1. Paste the Base64 string, with or without padding.
  2. Enable URL-safe mode if the value came from a URL or JWT.
  3. Decode to read the text, then copy it.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get strange characters?
The data is probably binary, such as a compressed file or an image. Use the Base64 to Image tool for pictures.
Are line breaks in the input a problem?
No. Spaces, tabs and newlines are ignored before decoding.
