Frequently asked questions
Why is extracting VAT not simply subtracting the rate?
Because the gross amount already includes VAT. Dividing by 1 + rate is correct: 120 at 20% contains 20 VAT, not 24.
Which rate should I use?
Rates vary by country and product category. Check your local tax authority; this calculator does not presume a jurisdiction.
