Canonical URL Checker
Check which URL a page declares as its canonical version.
Input
This tool sends only the URL you enter to our server, which fetches that public page. Nothing else is stored.
Result
Enter a public URL and run the check.
About this tool
Fetches a page and reports its canonical tag, whether it is self-referencing, whether it is absolute, and whether the canonical target is reachable. Duplicate or conflicting canonical declarations are flagged.
How to use it
- Enter the URL of the page you want to check.
- Press Check canonical.
- Compare the declared canonical with the URL you want indexed.
Frequently asked questions
Is a relative canonical acceptable?
Browsers and Google accept it, but absolute URLs remove ambiguity. The tool flags relative values as a recommendation.
What if there is no canonical tag?
Search engines then choose a version themselves, which can split signals. Adding a self-referencing canonical is usually the safest fix.
