About this tool
Checks that an XML document is well-formed, catching unclosed elements, mismatched closing tags, unescaped ampersands and duplicate attributes. Errors name the offending tag and line so you can repair the document quickly.
How to use it
- Paste the XML document.
- Press Validate to run the browser’s strict XML parser.
- Read the first reported error and fix it, then re-validate.
Frequently asked questions
Does validation check a DTD or XSD?
No. This is a well-formedness check only; schema validation needs the schema file and a dedicated validator.
Why is a raw & rejected?
In XML an ampersand starts an entity. Write & for a literal ampersand, or wrap the content in CDATA.
